Dehradun, August 16
Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at higher educational institutions, schools and other organisations here yesterday. St Joseph’s Academy organised a special assembly to remember freedom fighters. The chief guest on the occasion, Group Captain Onkar Nath, hoisted the Tricolour.
Addressing the students, Onkar Nath asked them to imbibe the qualities of freedom fighters. Principal Rev Bro AJ George, alumni members and school coordinators were present on the occasion.
The Indian Academy
A debate competition was organised at The Indian Academy, Nehru Gram, on the occasion of Independence Day on Wednesday. Former Assistant Commissioner, Navodaya Vidhyalaya, RP Dobhal hoisted the national flag. He called upon the students to play a constructive role in the development of the country. Principal, The Indian Academy, Neelam Sharma, informed about various activities of the school. Director of the academy Surendra Khanduri was also present.
Sri Guru Nanak Public Inter-College
NCC cadets led the Independence Day celebrations at Sri Guru Nanak Public Inter-College, Chukkhuwala. Principal PS Kakkar was given the guard of honour. Lions Club, Dehradun Hill, organised a tree plantation programme on the school premises.
Sardar Bhagwan Singh Institute
Chairman of the Sardar Bhagwan Singh Postgraduate Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Research, Balawala, Dehradun, hoisted the flag on the institute premises.
Aryan School
A cultural programme was organised at Aryan School to celebrate Independence Day. Col Amrit Khanna (retd) hoisted the national flag. Children presented folk dances and patriotic songs also.
Summer Valley School
A performance by girls on song “Vande Matram” held the audience spellbound at Summer Valley School. Director, administration, Ashok Wasu and Principal SC Biala hoisted the flag.
Delhi Public School
“Jash-e-Azaadi” programme was organised at Delhi Public School. The chief guest on the occasion, Dr RN Singh, a scientist, hoisted the Tricolour.
Residents’ welfare society
The Pragati Vihar Residents’ Welfare Society celebrated Independence Day at the society’s community hall. Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma hoisted the national flag. Sudha Sharma, a resident, gave a cheque for Rs 5,000 to the MLA to be deposited in the Chief Minister Relief Fund for the Uttarkashi cloudburst victims.
