Ex-staff of Municipal Council of Dehradun to get hiked pension
The former employees of the Municipal Council of Dehradun, the
body that existed before the formation of Municipal Corporation, are likely to
get a hiked pension from next month onward. Currently, the 300-odd retired
employees of municipal council get about Rs 1000 per month as pension. This
will be hiked to a minimum of Rs 3500. The MCD has sent the proposal to
Commissioner Garhwal to this effect. Once the Commissioner gives green signal
to this proposal, the file will move ahead. More than 300 retired employees of
the council will benefit from this increment.
“The proposal has been sent to Commissioner
Garhwal and further action in this regard will be taken after he clears the
proposal. We hope the old pensioners will get the benefit of the hike very
soon,” said the Municipal Commissioner. The retired employees have been
pitching for a hike in the pension and have been running from pillar to post in
this connection for many years now but to no effect. “A pension of Rs 1000 in
this age is ridiculous. What is a person expected to do with such a small
amount?”said a pensioner. Those retired from the MCD will not be covered in the
hike as they are already getting decent pensions.
