Dehradun, September 4
The Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) and the Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) have signed a memorandum of understanding.
The MoU was signed by VK Bahuguna, Director-General, ICFRE, and Zhang Shougong, CAF president in Beijing. It will facilitate cooperation between the two countries in the identified areas of research.
VK Bahuguna and Shougong discussed the emerging areas of mutual interest like climate change, forest ecosystems, forest hydrology germ-plasm conservation, sustainable forest management and tree improvement.
The MoU will also paves the way to develop an umbrella action plan with the main emphasis on bamboo cultivation, the development of industrial bamboo products and an improvement programme for important tree species like teak, sandalwood and eucalyptus.
VK Bahuguna also appreciated the Chinese expertise in the area of bamboo cultivation and technologies for bamboo products.
According to VK Bahuguna, this long-term bilateral collaborative programme has a tremendous scope for the exchange of technologies in the area of bamboo improvement, product development and tree improvement.
