Dehradun, September 7
Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, in a message issued on the occasion of International Literacy Day, said the government was working in a systematic way under the Sarv Siksha Abhiyan to encourage literacy in the state. He added literacy would help people know about various development programmes initiated by the government and to avail of their benefits.
Bahuguna appealed to the NGOs, social organisations working in the field of literacy and public representatives to work dedicatedly in their respective areas. He urged representatives of panchayats and local bodies to provide leadership to the campaign and contribute to eradicating illiteracy.
The Chief Minister laid emphasis on working hard towards attaining 100 per cent literacy in the state. He stressed on collective efforts for increasing the literacy rate among women. He said Mahila Mangal Dals and organisations related to women should come forward to encourage literacy among them.
