The historic Nanda Devi fair is all set to begin in Almora from Thursday, depicting religious-cum-ancient civilisation of Kumaon. Besides, achievements of different Government departments, symbol of modern day lifestyle will also be put on display by the respective departments during this weeklong cultural show.
The Nanda Devi fair organising committee and the local administration will jointly organise this religious-cum-cultural festival. At the same time to encourage the new generation about dying cultural and religious activities of the hill State, children drawn from different schools will also be involved in different cultural programmes.
Therefore, giving special emphasis on depicting the traditions and cultural activities, efforts are also on how different Government department could exhibit their achievements in this cultural-cum-religious Nana Devi Mahotsav in proper way, said PK Arya, ADM, Almora.
Among others, the information department and the cultural department would also play a key role in organising this Nanda Devi Mahotsav in association with the Nanda Devi organising committee, the ADM added.
The festival will continue till Thursday, September 26. With completion of basic formalities like creation of statue of the Goddess Nanda Devi on the opening day, the formal inauguration of this religious-cum-cultural show will take place on Friday, September 22, informed the members of the organising committee. Processions depicting the cultural activities will be taken out in the city on Monday, September 24 in which children from different schools will also be participating in a big way, the organisers added.
Necessary instructions have been given to the District Education Officer to prepare children for the festival and to make proper arrangements, Arya added.
The interesting fact is that to add colour to this religious-cum-cultural event, the fair organising committee has also urged the Army for participation of the Army band in this annual cultural event through the local administration.
Meanwhile, the district administration has stressed on the need to maintain cleanliness of the city during the weeklong Nanda Devi festival and asked the officials of the local civic body and the PWD to take necessary steps in this regard.
Besides, the district administration has also asked the Jal Sasthan to ensure smooth supply of drinking water. If need be, make arrangements of water tankers during the festival period, ADM further said.
More so, to ensure proper security arrangements during this cultural event, will be the top priority of the local administration. So the local administration has also asked the police to keep vigil on the suspects and anti-social elements so that the festival could be organised in smooth and peaceful manner.
