Dehradun, November 6
The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Dehradun, launched a three-day Bharat Nirman public information campaign at Pipalkoti in Chamoli today. MP from Garhwal Satpal Maharaj, while inaugurating the campaign, said once a Vidhan Sabha Bhawan was constructed at Gairsain, it would be the first hill station in the state to be developed properly after Independence. While hill stations like Mussoorie, Lansdowne and Almora were developed by the British, no hill station had been developed after Independence. Gairsain would be the first such hill station in the state.

He said roads and other basic facilities would also be developed around the Tehri Dam lake on the lines of Norway and Denmark.
Maharaj said a high-level meeting would be held in Delhi soon to discuss the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail link and there would be no shortage of funds for its construction. Local MLA Rajendra Singh Bhandari also spoke on the occasion.
Those present at the function included Karnprayag MLA Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri.
About 24 stalls were put up by different departments at the venue of the inaugural function at Pipalkoti. The Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry departments, besides the Tribal Development Corporation, various self-help groups and the ITBP had put up stalls to disseminate information about various schemes.
During the campaign people would be informed about the flagship programmes of the Central government under Bharat Nirman. These include the Mahatma Gandhi National
Rural Employment Guarantee Act, National Rural Health Mission, Right to Information, Total Sanitation Campaign, Sarv Siksha Abhiyan, Mid-day Meal Scheme, the Banwasi Adhikar Adhiniyam and various social welfare schemes.
Various media units of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry took part of the drive.
