A 10-day-long janyatra (people's march), which aims at awakening the people of the state against commercialisation of water resources, began from Jageshwar Dham today.

The march, which is being carried out by Uttarakhand Lok Vahini with the support of Azadi Bachao Andolan and other like-minded organisations will cover almost the entire state in the coming 10 days. "We will awaken people on the increasing danger of water commercialisation which is coming in the way of big hydroelectric projects in the state of Uttarakhand alone," said Shamsher singh Bisht, president of Lok Vahini and convener of the march.
The march, which headed towards Danya town of Almora district today, was represented by, besides Shamsher Singh Bisht, PC Tiwari of Lok Vahini, Swapnil Srivastava, Suman Sharma and Pradeep Kumar of Azadi Bachao Andolan.
