Pithoragarh, November 20
At least 15 persons were killed and seven injured when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Pithoragarh at 7.30 this morning. The ill-fated vehicle (UK05TA-0137), which was reportedly overloaded, was on its way to Dharchula from Rantchi village in Pithoragarh. Break failure is stated to be the reason behind the accident.
Dharchula SDM Pramod Kumar said relief and rescue works were carried out as fast as possible. The injured have been admitted to the local Dharchula hospital. The bodies have been sent for postmortem.
Guv, CM express grief; magisterial probe ordered

Bhopal: Governor Aziz Qureshi and Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna have expressed grief over the road mishap. The Governor prayed for the peace of the departed souls and expressed condolences to next of their kin. He wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The Chief Minister has also ordered a magisterial probe into the accident. He instructed the district administration to pay ex-gratia relief to next of kin of the deceased.
