Mussoorie, November 20
The state government’s failure to provide land to the Indian Meteorological (MET) Department for installing doppler radar to strengthen early warning disaster indicators has irked the BJP.

Senior BJP leader and former president of the Andolankari Samman Parishad Ravinder Jugran, while speaking to mediapersons here, said the MET Department had felt the need for the doppler-effect radar in the wake of the Uttarkashi cloudburst a few years ago.
It purchased two doppler radars for Rs 12 crore. One radar was to be installed in Mussoorie and and the other in Nainital.
However, the state government instead of providing land for the purpose asked the MET Department to buy the land at the market rate, Jugran added.
He said the state government had learnt no lesson from the mid-June disaster. It had failed to provide any relief to the disaster victims. Jugran demanded that the state government, without any further delay, should provide land to the department free of cost and provide assistance in the installation of the doppler radar. People could benefit from the early warning system and save themselves from any disaster in the near future, he added.
