DEHRADUN: Within three days of launching Operation Smile, to rescue missing minors, the Uttarakhand police tasted success. Two kids who had run away from their families on the New Year eve on the pretext of going out for a party were found near Shahdara police station in New Delhi.

The two kids, one a 14-year-old and the other aged 15 years (both Std VIII students) left their residence in Raipur area on December 31 evening to attend a New Year bash. However, when they didn't come back their parents informed the Raipur police.

"Immediately, a team was constituted and we launched a hunt for the missing children," circle officer Manoj Kumar Katyal told TOI. One of the two had a mobile and through Whatsapp he had updated his status and current location, said the police official, adding that a police team was rushed to the national capital immediately.

The two were found near Shahdara metro station and brought back to Dehradun. "They were looking for a job at a tea stall but the owner turned down their request," he said. On Thursday and Friday, they again approached some other shops but with no results.

A two member police team led by SI Navneet Bhandari were rushed to Delhi who brought back the children. "They have been safely handed over to their parents," added the CO.
