Uttarakhand chief secretary N Ravi Shankar on Tuesday held a meeting with Uttar Pradesh principal secretary (irrigation) Deepak Singhal at Lucknow to resolve issues related to distribution of irrigation-related properties including canals and water bodies which exist on the Uttarakhand-west UP border districts.

The meeting between the two secretaries came on the heels of the meeting between state chief minister Harish Rawat and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav on Monday. Rawat held the meeting with Akhilesh Yadav and Union home minister Rajnath Singh to finalize distribution of properties between both the states's tourism, irrigation and PWD departments in Lucknow.

Shankar told TOI that during his meeting with Singhal, both the officials decided to get in touch with their respective chief engineers (irrigation) to ascertain exact number of irrigation-related properties to be disbursed between the states.

He said that although there has been some pending cases of properties between the tourism and PWD departments of both the states, the maximum number of pending cases lies with the irrigation department. "Considering the maximum number of cases related to disbursement of canals and water bodies between the two states it is mandatory to ascertain their exact number before finalizing their distribution," said Shankar.

After CM Harish Rawat's satisfactory dialogue with Akhilesh Yadav on these issues, the UP government has intensified the process of settling these cases amicably. Officials from both the states also decided to hold second round of meeting either at Lucknow or Dehradun to resolve the issues, he added.
