The pilgrimage to the Kedarnath shrine, including through choppers, was halted today following heavy rains in the higher reaches of Garhwal.
However, the yatra to the Badrinath, Hemkund, Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines continued smoothly. The water level in the Ganga in Haridwar has reached the mark of 291.90 m while the Bhagirathi river on the Tiloth bridge in Uttarkashi was flowing at 1,120 m.
Meanwhile, several rural roads today blocked following landslides triggered by rains. Seven rural roads are blocked in Rudraprayag, eight in Uttarkashi, 14 in Pauri Garhwal and seven rural roads are blocked in Tehri district.
The Dehradun met office has issued a warning of heavy rain at isolated places, especially in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Pauri, Almora, Nainital and Pithoragarh, during the next 36 hours starting July 16. In another incident, six persons were injured when the car they were travelling in fell into a gorge near the Nagni chowkie. They were on their way to Rishikesh from Ganshali. The injured include two women and a child.
