Dehradun: 25 July, 2015
Rich tributes were paid to Kargil war heroes on Vijay Divas celebrated across the Garhwal region here today.
Members of the Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) gathered at the Saheed chowk and garlanded the statue of shaheed Bhagat Singh in Mussoorie. Former IG of the BSF Manoranjan Tripathi, local historian Gopal Bhardwaj, BJP youth wing town president Amit Bhatt, senior citizen RK Khanna, and BJP local unit general secretary Kushal Rana offered floral tributes to the martyrs and remembered their contribution and sacrifice. Tripathi and Bhardwaj said it was the day to remember the sacrifices of soldiers. They said Vijay Divas was named after the success of Operation Vijay. On July 25 and 26 in 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistani intruders. They, however, lamented that the town did not have its own war memorial and demanded one as a number of soldiers from the region had sacrificed their lives in the Kargil war.
Later, BJP youth wing members marched along with other people to the Shaheed Sthal raising patriotic slogans and there they lit candles in the memory of the martyrs.
Guard of honour
NEW TEHRI: Kargil Divas was also celebrated at New Tehri with patriotic fervour.
