Dehradun, July 16, 2015
Uttarakhand Congress president Kishore Upadhaya today said the party had planned to plant one lakh saplings by August 15 as part of the Harela festival. Congress workers had already planted 1,500 saplings in Dehradun.
Upadhaya, while addressing mediapersons at Congress Bhawan here today, lauded Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s initiative to celebrate the Harela festival in a big way. He praised the Chief Minister for reviving age-old bondage between the people and the environment. He also reiterated commitment of the party to work for restoration of the green cover in the state.
Upadhaya accused the Central government of step motherly treatment and reducing funds allocations for centrally-sponsored schemes. He said Uttarakhand was yet to receive funds for the Ardh Kumbh to be organised next year. The Centre was intentionally reducing funds to Uttarakhand, as it was ruled by the Congress. He said the Narendra Modi government was anti-farmer and it through its land acquisition law want to favour industrialists.
