A self-loading rifle (SLR) of an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawan was stolen when he fell asleep during duty hours early morning today.
The incident has created tension for the IRB and the district police, as the weapon was stolen from a sensitive area on the border with Uttar Pradesh. IRB personnel in strength are deployed on the border with Uttar Pradesh to check large scale mining going on illegally at Amanatgadh in the Buggawala area.
Guard Commander, HCP Arjun, has filed a complaint at Buggawala police station regarding the missing rifle and five cartridges against unknown persons.
SSP Sweety Aggarwal said constable Sandeep Kumar of the IRB fell asleep while on duty around midnight when someone lifted his rifle that was also not attached to a chain.
“The incident occurred between midnight and 3 am when Sandeep Kumar fell asleep. He had joined duty yesterday after on leave to his home in Chamoli. A case has been registered at Buggawala police station and intense search operation are being carried out in the nearby areas,” said the SSP.
Meanwhile, the Kankhal police seized 40 caskets of illegal country made liquor from Sandesh Nagar resident Sushil Das when he was ferrying the consignment for sake near Guru Ram Rai Public School on the Lakshar-Haridwar Road.
The Ranipur police seized another 50 caskets during checking near the foundry gate of BHEL. Kishanpal, a resident of Gusaigali, Khadkhadi, was arrested and a case under the Excise Act was registered against him.
