Traffic jams were witnessed at major inter-crossings in the city following thundershowers on Thursday evening.
Though additional police force was deployed at various places to streamline traffic, their efforts proved to little. Survey Chowk, Dharampur, Patel Nagar, Saharanpur Road, Gandhi Road, Araghar, Chakrata Road, ISBT crossing, Subhash Road, and Ashley Hall Chowk witnessed huge traffic jams.
SSP Pushpak Jyoti has given stern orders to the in charges of all police stations and posts to deploy additional force to check traffic jams on arterial roads in the city. The SHOs have been directed to focus on major inter-crossings of the city to ensure smooth movement of traffic. Police personnel have been told to remain alert to ensure disruption-free movement of traffic, especially on water-logged roads after rains.
The SSP told The Tribune that he had directed police personnel to impose heavy challan on traffic rule offenders.
Following instructions from SSP Pushpak Jyoti, the city police held an awareness drive on importance of following traffic rules in different locations of the city. Araghar Chowki in charge Ashok Rathore along with policemen distributed pamphlets on traffic rules to commuters. They advised commuters not to indulge in rash and negligent driving, which were mainly responsible for fatal accidents. They advised people not to use cellphones while driving.
