Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sweety Aggarwal today suspended Gang Nahar police post in charge and four constables for allegedly taking bribe.
The SSP ordered the suspension of Sub Inspector Dharmendra Rathi, in charge, Hospital police post, Gang Nahar, along with constables Riyaz Ali, Arjun, Susheel and Mukesh Chauhan with immediate effect.
Sweety Aggarwal said the police team had arrested four people, who were trying to smuggle a double headed snake, a week ago in Roorkee.
The police team demanded a bribe of Rs 35,000 from the arrested persons to let them off.
The bribe incident came to light on July 16, when the four snake smugglers were again arrested by the Roorkee police from Sonali bridge, near Ganga canal.
“During interrogation the arrested snake smugglers disclosed to the investigation team, led by Superintendent of Rural Police Parmendra Dobhal, that they were earlier arrested by the Hospital police check post personnel but were let off after paying a bribe of Rs 35,000. Roorkee Circle Officer Kuldeep Aswal has been directed to probe the whole matter within a week time,” said SSP Aggarwal.
