Residents of Simalkot, Kothera, Rankot and adjoining villages today launched a relay fast demanding the construction of the degree college building at Gangolihat in Pithoragarh district. At present, the college is being run in a rented accommodation.
They alleged although the authorities had sanctioned funds for the construction work, it was yet to begin.
The protesters alleged villagers had donated more than 2.5 acres for the college building. “The government had given us an assurance to construct a connecting road to Simalkot village, where the college building is to be constructed,” said Bahadur Singh Mehta, president of the Sangharsh Samiti, which is spearheading the agitation.
The agitating protesters have threatened to intensify their protest from from August 15.
