The Champawat district administration has started looking for land to establish wine plant near Chalthi village of the district. The Chief Minister had announced at Devidhura last evening that local fruits be used for making wine in the Devidhura region.

“We have ordered the revenue officials of the Chalthi region to look for over 5 acres of land at one place to establish a wine plant that has been announced by the Chief Minister,” said Deprendra Chaudhary, District Magistrate, Champawat.

According to villagers, if the wine plant gets established at Chalthi, it will create employment for the locals. “We will also get rid of the stone crushers and illegal mining activities which at present dominates the Chalthi region of the district, “Said Keshar Singh, a villager from Belkhet village near Chalthi.

According to sources, the work of preparing detailed project report for the wine plant has been given to the Kumaon Mandal Vikash Nigam as according to the new excise policy of the state government, Kumaon and Garhwal Mandal Vikash Nigams have been assigned to establish wine plants in localities of fruit growing beats of the regions.
