Activists of the Uttaranchal Madhyamik Teachers Association held a protest rally in support of their demands here today. The protesters led by association district president BS Panwar gathered at Parade Ground and from there held a rally that passed through Lansdowne Chowk, Darshan Lal Chowk, Clock Tower, Rajpur Road and Globe Chowk. Meanwhile, the police had placed barricades at Kanak Chowk and did not allow the protesters to move towards the Secretariat, leading to a heated argument between them. The activists sat on a dharna at Kanak Chowk and shouted slogans against the government. They said they had submitted several memorandums to government officials and public representatives but to no avail. Teachers were being given additional duties of block level officer during elections and census duty.
