31 year old Serb joins Pete Sampras with 14 Grand Slams
Novak Djokovic completed a straight sets win over Juan Martin Delpotro in the finals of US Open 2018. This was the 14th major win for the Serb tying him with Pete Sampras for the third most Grand Slam titles. He now trails his rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The 31 year old Serb is back to his invincible best after an elbow injury layoff and has now won the last two Grand Slams.
The Serb has been one of the most consistent figures in the history of the US Open, reaching 11 consecutive semi-finals since 2007 (he was forced to miss the last Grand Slam of the season in 2017) and seven finals overall, winning two finals in 2011 and 2015. Novak has won his third US Open title with a 6-3 7-6 6-3 triumph over the 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro in three hours and 15 minutes.
Big 3 Grand Slam domination continues
Since 2003, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic aka The Big Three have captured 51 out of 62 Grand Slams and this trend continued in 2018 as well with Federer claiming the Australian open, Nadal keeping his monopoly at the French open and Djokovic winning the last two Grand Slams of the year -Wimbledon and US Open.
